About AbideWithHim

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.  (Jn 15:5)

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.  (Gal 5:22-23)

Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”  (Jn 8:31-32)

The key to just about everything in life is abiding in Christ. It is through abiding in Christ and his word that we have love, joy, peace, strength, wisdom, and abundant life. Abiding in Christ pays dividends both in the spiritual and emotional impact it has in our lives. And above all, abiding in Christ honors the Lord, which is the purpose of our lives.

So this website and blog is written to spur believers on in this pursuit and provide tools to help them abide with greater consistency and effectiveness. We write blog posts to teach and to recommend resources for spiritual growth, and we provide a daily devotion program to help individuals, families and churches learn to really plug into a meaningful personal worship and study time each day.

AbideWithHim is a family ministry. My oldest daughter, Hannah, and I write most of the material and lead the daily devotions. (I lead the general devotions; she leads the devotions for teens.) My patient wife does all of the technical and clerical work to make this happen (record videos, edit videos and images, set-up daily emails, etc.)

If I can answer any questions or if you have any suggestions, please let me know through our communications page.

Abiding,

About Noel Dear

1noelSince 1994, I have served as a senior pastor. I have had the privilege of serving three great churches in three very different cultures. Through these ministries, I have had the opportunity to see how the art and science of abiding in Christ can a thoroughly life changing thing for those who desire to know him better.

I am married to my best friend, Donna. We have three wonderful daughters, Hannah and Emily, in their early- and mid-teens, and Rae who is eight and has come to be a part of our family a couple years ago.

I have published one book, Illuminating The Darkness: A Fresh and Effective Solution to Depression, Stress, and Anxiety. This book incorporates the biblical teaching and counsel about abiding in Christ. It provides practical wisdom for overcoming mental and emotional struggles in life. Though the book is written for men and women, it has ranked as high as the top 40 women’s health books on Amazon.com.

I also have a couple of devotional journals available on Amazon. These are designed to function along with the AWH Daily devotions.

Apart from abiding in Christ and enjoying my family, my interests and passions focus on writing, tennis, and college football.

AWH gives my quiet times the focus and direction they have lacked for years. There is simply no better way to start the day than to have a conversation with the Lord, and I am closer to Him today than I was yesterday.

AWH devotions have been extremely helpful in reinvigorating my daily quiet time. The structure provides a predictable and Biblical framework to enter into God’s presence while allowing personal flexibility without any guilt of not following the plan. The devotions and videos by Noel have shed fresh insight on some familiar passages and have produced numerous moments of personal conviction. I am grateful to receive the AWH devotions (and daily follow-ups). God has used this resource to help me draw closer to Him. I pray it will do the same for you.
